Natura 2000: the Natura Network Initiative

The Natura Networking initiative (NNi) developed by ELO with its partners, with the support of the Commission, is a communication tool to raise public awareness about the ability of land owners and land users to contribute to the longevity of our natural heritage. Several sub-projects will be developed: design and promotion of good management practices; communication through position papers and media; contributions to Internet communication through the so called "Green Days".

This project should be a three-year initiative and includes the 25 countries of the enlarged Union.

The NNi aims to identify and promote examples of good practice in site-management and encourage the formation of Local Area Partnerships, and where they already exist, to provide further resources to assist their development and promotion. NNi will offer flexible alternatives for contributing to this Europe-wide initiative.

ELO will gather information about good practice developments, events that you feel are favourable to our European natural heritage: good practices example, conferences organised by your association, visits to noteworthy estates, exceptional public opening of estates with remarkable environmental heritage, training sessions, etc even if they already exist. These events need not be new or specifically organised to be part of the NNi.

As an example the launching of the book by Carlos OTERO and Tony BAILEY "Europe's Natural and Cultural Heritage - The European Estate", published by Friends of the Countryside, will be rated as a "Green Day".

By clicking on this link you will get the application form that allows you to send us your contribution. This will contribute to the positive image of private landownership we wish to promote. As manager of land you are responsible of this asset and are undoubtedly in the best position to deliver information.

ELO has to meet its commitments towards the Commission and needs the intervention from its whole network.
